Abstract:
This chapter outlines the predictive modelling strategies of plastic injection molded product defects through advanced intelligent algorithms. An outline of commonly encountered defects predictive modelling based on different types of intelligent algorithms have been provided. The chapter also provided a case study on weighted defects index predictive modelling for a packaging bottle cap specimen based on fuzzy logic and pattern search optimization algorithms. Through a multi-stage design of experiment technique, weighted defect index predictive model were developed based on fuzzy logic and the model tuned using pattern search algorithm. Predictive modelling of plastic injection molded product defects through multi-stage design of experiments and intelligent algorithms represents a significant stride towards quality control. Defects predictive modelling have empowered manufacturers in defect identification and control prior to occurrence for an optimum production.
