Computer Aided Modelling for Plastic Injection Molding

Abstract

In this chapter, an outline of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) for injection molding process is made. The chapter begins by introducing the holistic concept of CAE modelling and its scientific principle as a plastic injection molding process modelling technology. The chapter presents a case study that involves CAE modelling of a packaging bottle cap mold. This entails an outline of product design, mold design and the various crucial stages of CAE modelling. These stages include an understanding of governing equations and boundary conditions, mesh refinement, finite element model verification and numerical data validation. The utilization of CAE for plastic injection molding process modelling coupled with a comprehensive understanding of crucial CAE modelling stages and requirements helps to streamline the manufacturing process and also ensures the production of high-quality, defect-free components.
