Water pollution is one of the major threats to the environment and brings an effect on health of beings in the world today. As population keeps, growing there’s more demand for good health standards and pollution has come up due to unplanned development up to the river courses, due
to the farming practices carried up to the riparian land (river reserve) and due to several industries close to the rivers discharging their wastes into it. The main objective in my research is to assess water pollution and determine the vulnerable areas to water pollution. The main problem that led to this project is the complaints of the residents on the polluted water along the
stream being their major source of home use water. Poor discharge of wastes and poor farming practices lead to pollution of the water leading to an outbreak of diseases. This was successful by collecting all datasets required and characterizing the factors that contribute to water pollution.
All the factors were put into consideration by a multi-criteria analysis and the susceptible areas were identified. The outcome was a map showing the susceptible regions to water pollution after taking into consideration the following factors; distance to built-up areas, distance to agricultural lands, the soil types in the region and the gradient of that area. This project will help in improvement of health standards after the recommended measures have been put in place, it will help the residents to know the good places for water collection for home and domestic use the county government will identify places to collect water from to supply to the residents. |
