Abstract:
Our ability to change ourselves and our surroundings increases with each advancement in technology and the population of the world. The available land base declines, and the resiliency of our environment become increase taxed. As a result many organisations need to monitor land use land cover. The main objective of this project is to assess developmental impacts of areas surrounding Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and prediction of changes for the year 2030 and to achieve this supervised classification is used considering the maximum like hood to come up with the land use land cover of the years 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018.Accuracy assessment is done using google earth for the purpose of ground truthing. Change detection is also done to show how the land use land cover has been changing for the different epochs (2012/2014, 2014/2016, 2016/2018). Correlation of the population with respect to the various classes in the land use land cover maps. This shows how the land use land cover has been changing with increase in population of DEKUT. The correlation analysis is represented in tables and graphs to clearly show the rate of changes. Using the markov chain analysis, prediction of the year 2030 was done and it shows that there will be change in the land use land cover. The final results will help the policy makers and planners to have a total perspective of things to come for the setting of commercial and residential land use.
